Senior officials have confirmed that face recognition cameras will be installed at Prague's Václav Havel Airport.

Minister of the Interior Milan Chovanec confirmed the plans to reporters this week.

A camera security system with biometric face recognition software will be linked to a database operation by the National Security Unit, which is charged with identifying criminals.

A 71 million CZK ($31m) order was approved by the government on Monday related to airport security systems.

"It is not a panacea, but it could help,” Miroslav Mareš, an expert on organized crime, told Prague Morning.
