Norway's Idex has announced it is collaborating with Visionox, China's largest OLED display manufacturer.

The parties are exploring development of the next-generation of IDEX's unique off-chip biometric sensors for smart cards employing Visionox's flexible LTPS TFT backplane technology. The goal of the collaboration is to enable cost-effective, feature-rich smart card systems employing both display and biometric technologies.

Stan Swearingen, CEO of IDEX Biometrics comments: "The IDEX team has extensive experience in merging capacitive sensing and display technologies. Integrated displays represent the next generation of fingerprint sensors in cards. By combining the fingerprint sensor with a display, the user experience and security can be significantly enhanced. The display can be used for a range of features including dynamic CVV to address card-not-present fraud, user-specific information such as account balance, or to provide feedback when enrolling the fingerprint. The technology will also be applicable to other verticals such as Mobile or IoT". He continues: "We are proud to collaborate with Visionox. They are one of the biggest players in the OLED display industry and have a long history of innovation. We are confident about our joint ability to commercialize this ground-breaking technology."

Mr.Tiepeng Sun, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Visionox adds: "Visionox has been dedicated to technology advancement since its beginning. Leveraging our OLED and flexible backplane capabilities to address new markets such as smart cards demonstrates our persistent innovation. We are pleased to be working with a technology leader like IDEX Biometrics and we are very excited about the potential for this technology."
