FaceTec achieves anti-spoofing standard

FaceTec announced today that ZoOm 3D Face Authentication is now the first - and only - biometric to achieve perfect Level-1 and Level-2 anti-spoofing results in NIST/NVLAP-certified iBeta Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) testing.

Following a 100% Level-1 anti-spoofing certification in August 2018, the rigorous Level-2 test validates the effectiveness of anti-spoofing Liveness Detection technology against realistic 3D artifacts and masks worn by living human testers. The iBeta PAD certification is the only test guided by the ISO 30107 global biometric testing standard.

Passing the Level-1 and Level-2 PAD tests required ZoOm to successfully stop more than 3,300 spoof attempts over 12 days of rigorous testing with sophisticated attacks using digital and paper photos, high-res video, life-like dolls and realistic latex masks. No spoof attempts were able to fool the system and ZoOm achieved a perfect 100% anti-spoofing score over both tests. “Level-1 testing artifacts included digital and paper photos and high resolution video, while Level-2 raised the bar considerably, using sophisticated 3D objects that included mannequin heads, life-like dolls and realistic latex masks.” said Josh Rose, CTO of FaceTec. “The perfect test results prove our AI-driven Liveness Detection technology is robust against intense spoofing attacks and secure enough for high-value targets.”

In direct response to the PAD test certifications, FaceTec has been approached by several large international organizations in need of a trusted authentication solution. Until recently, properly assessing the security of biometric systems was nearly impossible. The only options were to perform exhaustive internal testing or rely solely on the biometric vendors’ claims. With the addition of the Level-2 certification, which has been specifically requested by some global brands, FaceTec will see unprecedented user and customer growth in 2019.

“Our NVLAP-accredited lab and ISO-guided program provides the verifiability and consistency needed to help providers create products that can be more easily assessed and targeted for specific use cases,” said Dr. Kevin Wilson, Director of Biometrics at iBeta.

ZoOm is the world’s most secure face authentication software and easily integrates into any iOS or Android app or web page, delivering unparalleled biometric security and user convenience across platforms. Developers can download the fully functional demo apps directly from ZoOmLogin.com for iOS, Android and webcams. Developer SDK accounts are available with plugin support for Xamarin, Appcelerator/Titanium, Phonegap, Cordova, Ionic and React Native.

"We have a responsibility to our customers and their users to accurately describe ZoOm’s security levels, but our competitors don’t seem to have shared this commitment to integrity and transparency.” said Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO of FaceTec. “We proactively subject ZoOm to rigorous 3rd-party testing while other biometric vendors lobby to have testing thresholds lowered and security levels reduced just so they can try to get the word “certified” on their home pages. It’s irresponsible and disingenuous, and I’m glad that our customers finally have a way to differentiate between real biometric security and empty promises. We passed Levels 1 and 2 because of our uncompromising commitment to security, and now that we have proven ZoOm to be the strongest face authenticator on the market it is quickly becoming the global standard in biometric authentication software.”
